Lab 7 Open Analysis, Overview and Reflection
As this week comes to a close, we have all completed lab 7 and our on our way with the DNA replication process. We are currently taking samples of our own DNA, denaturing it, replicating it, and allowing it to undergo a polymerase chain reaction so that we can amplify specific DNA sequences. We will then be putting it through electrophoresis in order to determine our blood types. We have completed lab one of a series of four and today was simply gathering our own DNA and synthesizing short oligonucleotides. Theses are primers that are used to prime the replication of the target DNA by DNA polymerase. Two cycles of PCR where carried out so that we produced four sets of double stranded DNA. Overall the lab was a success and very interesting. I as well as my fellow students look foreword to the labs that await and the rest of the DNA sequencing that is yet to come. Please leave any additional comments, thoughts or insight pertaining to this lab.

Research Opportunity
Florida State University's Department of Medical Research is conducting a study of DNA replication. The department is seeking undergraduate biology majors who are interested in investigating the process of electrophoresis as well as the visualization and conceptualization of replication projects.

Welcome!
As a biology major at Florida State University with a focus in Pre-Med, I thought it would be advantageous to the student body to have access to a blog in which we can discuss classes, medical research and news as well as any issues or question concerning the course and material required for our specific Major. Daily posts will be made, concerning updates on changing and advancing medical technologies, regulations and techniques, upcoming events that cater to the interests of biology/med students as well as any issue concerning labs and classes. Happy blogging!
